SHIRLEY Dawson was determined to do something to raise funds for Barnsley hospice after the way it cared for her dying husband.

The 68-year-old grandmother decided she wanted to tackle something a little more challenging than a sponsored walk- and so instead she hurled herself out of a plane.

Shirley, an accounts manager, completed her tandem skydive from 15,000ft above North Lincolnshire.

This week she re-visited the hospice to hand over the £2,505 she has raised and to thank staff for all their care and support.

Shirley said: “It was an exhilarating completely amazing experience and if I was a bit younger I might have been tempted to take it up as a hobby.”
