GREENACRE special school is applying to open a new 'free school' in Barnsley which will be open to all children - not just those with special needs.

The proposed primary school would have 480 pupils, with a split of just 20 per cent special educational needs and 80 per cent mainstream children.

Greenacre is rated outstanding by Ofsted.

Headteacher Susan Hayter said: "We are currently engaging with Barnsley Council in the hope they will support Greenacre to bring an additional outstanding school to the Barnsley Community."

Two question and answer sessions will be held on Tuesday at Let's Go Potty, the Greenacre shop on May Day Green in town, at 11.30am and 5pm.
