GREENACRE School has received funding of almost £10,000 to help deliver workshops for young people and families.
Through The National Lottery Community Fund, the school has been awarded a large sum of money which will be used to deliver confidence building workshops to aid the young people with the transition from school into adulthood.
Many young people with severe learning difficulties attend Greenacre School for up to 16 years and the transition from school into adulthood can be an incredibly anxious and challenging time for them and their families.
Greenacre School plans to address this issue through their ‘Moving On’ project, with a focus on providing young people with enjoyable activities that will support their physical, emotional and mental well-being while developing communication skills and promoting independence.
The school has teamed up with Qdos Creates to deliver drama workshops to young people from Greenacre, who plan to attend Opening Doors social care provision, once they have left Greenacre.
Opening Doors is a community interest project which aids young adults with learning disabilities to develop independence and reach their full potential.
The school was awarded £9,750 towards its ‘Moving On’ project.
Lynsey Bloomer, service manager for Opening Doors, said: “We are extremely pleased that our application to the National Lottery Community Fund had been successful to enable this important project to go ahead.”
