THREE Barnsley groups have been awarded more than £1,000 from the community fund of an independent organisation.
Barnsley Beacon supports the families of drug and alcohol users and distributes food parcels to carers living with addiction in their family to alleviate hardship.
The food is provided on a weekly basis and the group has been awarded £500 towards the cost of the food parcels from the Sheffield Mutual Friends Society.
A grant of £500 was also given to the Barnsley Starter Packs projects which helps homeless families and individuals moving into their first home by supplying them with essentials such as bedding, crockery, cutlery and basic personal hygiene items.
Time4Youth, an organisation which aims to help children have fun, make friends and develop skills in safe environment, has been awarded £390.
Tony Burdin, chief executive of the society, said: "We hope that our donations will make a real difference to the important work of our first five Community Fund recipients."
