Barnsley have revealed in their retained list that they will not be offering a new contract to fan favourite winger Adam Hammill.

The 30-year-old winger played 198 games in three spells at the club, scoring goals in both Wembley finals in 2016 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and League One play-offs. A club statement read: "Everyone at Oakwell would like to thank Adam for his efforts during his second spell at Barnsley Football Club.

"A modern day icon and hero to many, Adam Hammill's contribution to this Club will never be forgotten and the memories made in his Reds career will live on forever.

"From the fairytale return against York City in the JPT at Oakwell, creating a goal and then scoring a trademark winner, the countless goals and assists in between that and the Wembley wonder goals against both Oxford United and Millwall and his continual hard graft and application, Hammill will be a surname forever etched into annals of Barnsley FC.

"So long, Adam, it was an absolute privilege."

As well as Hammill, and Andy Yiadom who had already joined Reading, Barnsley released Matt Mills and Nick Townsend as well as Adam Lund, Louis Rowe, Will Alderton, Sam Lomax, Tom Clare, Robbie Simpson, Sam Tingle, Brad Ash, Shaun Tuton, Wilberforce Ocran and Kane Swinburn.

New contracts have been offered to under 23s players Jack Walton, Ben Williams, Romal Palmer, Will Smith, Amir Berkovits, Cameron Simpson and Louis Wardle.
