MOST kids love Easter, but five-year-old Harry Rix wanted to make it special for adults in need too.

Harry, from Wilson Street, Wombwell, wants to collect as many Easter eggs and treats as possible to give out to the homeless.

He is working alongside mum Chelsea Cunliffe, step-dad Nigel and charity Help for Barnsley Homeless on the project.

Mum Chelsea said he only started collecting this week, but he has already had some donations through from his teachers at High View primary school.

She said it has given Harry, who is autistic, something to channel his excitement into.

She said: “It was just an idea we thought up which gives Harry something to focus on. He has had a few coming in and a poster has gone up in his school, on Facebook and throughout Wombwell and Darfield so we are hoping it will turn into quite a good thing.”

People can donate to Harry’s collection by dropping off items at Strawbridges Garden Centre off Doncaster Road in Darfield, The Bolthole Cafe on Dovecliffe Road in Wombwell or at 58 Park View, Shafton.

Lidl Wombwell is also a drop off point if people ask for Florence.

Chocolate eggs, cakes and other sweet treats are all welcome.

“Harry thinks it is fantastic that people are giving towards it. He knows it is for homeless people and when you ask him what that means, he says it is for people who don’t have a home and have to sleep in the garden,” Chelsea said.

“He’s like any child. Who doesn’t love Easter? He just wants to share that with others. At Christmas he took part in a shoe box collection too. We are trying to teach him that kindness can come in many different forms.

“There is no target, we just hope people get on board. And we want to say thank you to everywhere who has helped us out so far.”

Harry is collecting until March 28.
