YOUNG Harry Moulson only picked up a cornet for the first time 18 months ago and he’s already bagged himself a trophy and a trip to the national finals of the British Brass Band Championships.

Ten-year-old Harry’s big brother Charlie, 13, joined Worsbrough Brass on drums almost two years ago, and Harry decided to start having cornet lessons so he could join him.

And to make it a proper family affair, mum Jo started having lessons too.

On Saturday all three of them played with Worsbrough Brass at the Yorkshire area finals of banding’s biggest competition at Huddersfield Town Hall, where they took second place in their division - the second section - and qualified for one of two spots to represent Yorkshire in the national finals at Cheltenham Racecourse in September.

And Harry won a trophy of his own for being the youngest member in their section - the third tier of brass competition.

“It was absolutely amazing,” said Jo, 38, of Long Pye Close, Woolley Grange.
