A HARVEST service held in a community room following the emergency closure of a church building was disturbed by youths banging on windows, shouting and causing a disturbance, it has emerged.

The incident happened on Sunday after the evening harvest worship was switched from Pilley St Paul’s Church to Tankersley Welfare Hall, following a decision to close the building because of potential structural problems.

The evening service was led by lay reader Lena Brown in the senior citizens’ room at the centre, but Canon Keith Hale said the service was disrupted by the behaviour of youths outside.

He said: “It was plagued by youths banging on the windows all the way through. It was in the senior citizens’ room, which is accessible from the outside.”
