They don't make them like they used to!

A point Royston resident Maggie Grayson would certainly argue - having kept the same freezer in her home for more than 35 years.

Maggie, 68, and husband Geoff, 75, bought the appliance 38 years ago from the former Curry's store on Market Hill, Barnsley.

Although the couple can't remember how much they paid for it, Maggie joked that they 'certainly got their money's worth' .

She said: "I know when we first got married we couldn't afford a freezer and had to save up for it.

"We had it in our old home and it moved with us when we moved into this house 24 years ago.

"It's probably used more electricity than the whole of the rest of Royston!" joked Maggie, of Cherry Close.

This week the couple finally said goodbye to the Italian-made appliance - which is believed to be a Carlton Deluxe model - because the doors would not close.

"I went to buy a replacement and was only offered a warranty to insure the new freezer for 3 years," Maggie added.

"They definitely do not build things to last these days."
