Former Barnsley stalwart Bobby Hassell is considering a move to the Indian Premier League.

The 34-year-old has been a free agent since his release from Barnsley in May following ten years with the Reds and 299 games. Hassell has been offered a player-coach role at an unnamed club but the father-of-four is currently undecided as to whether he will move away from his home in Dodworth.

"The deal is definitely there, it's just whether I can commit to going there," Hassell told the Chronicle.

"I have to decide in the next three weeks and, if an offer closer to home comes along, I will look at it. I've been offered contracts at English clubs but they are all several hours' drive away from Barnsley.

"Going to India would mean spending three or four months at a time away from my family which would be hard but it would be a very exciting challenge.  I'd be the assistant manager and it's a new club so we'd be setting it up and signing all the players. It would be a great experience and coaching is something I would like to do in the future."

The season starts in January in India where a lot of money is being pumped into football. It has attracted former Arsenal players Freddie Ljungberg and Robert Pires, French World Cup winner David Trezeguet and former England goalkeeper David James.
