A MAN who shaved his head to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice has been left ‘speechless’ after raising more than treble his initial target.

Owen Burns, 21, raised £345 for the hospice after its appeal for more funding during the coronavirus outbreak.

Owen, of Dearne Hall Road, Barugh Green, set an initial target of £100 but donations continued to pour in after his post got shared online.

He said: “The response has been absolutely amazing, it started off as something small but quickly kept getting more donations.

“I’ve been really surprised by the reaction. It was nerve-wracking when my mum was cutting it off, but it was all worthwhile in the end.

“I wanted to donate to Barnsley Hospice because I had heard they had been appealing for more donations during the outbreak.

“I wanted to help out in a time of need as the hospice do so much for people around Barnsley so it’s only fair to give back.”
