A 700-SIGNATURE petition has been handed to the leader of the council over cuts to a new heath service to support Barnsley’s children and young people.

The council took full responsibility for the health and wellbeing of children and young people under its Healthy Child Programme for 0-19-year-olds in October.

Funding for the contract is £4.8m per year - which is £1.063m less than previously.

The service was put out to tender last year but there were no appropriate bids.

The council is now working with South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to develop a service and a further report to the council’s ruling cabinet is expected.
