An excellent first half strike by Ryan Hedges saw Barnsley make it three wins from three friendlies with a 1-0 success at National League side Salford City on Saturday.

In-demand striker Tom Bradshaw did not play but was at the Peninsula Stadium and is expected to join the squad of their week-long trip in Hungary which begins tomorrow.

The Reds began in a 4-4-2 with Zeki Fryers, usually a left-back, in central midfield and striker Victor Adeboyejo on the right wing.

Barnsley's captain and goalkeeper Adam Davies was forced into a good save at his near post after Salford broke down the right side of the visitors' box then Mamadou Thiam headed an Alex Mowatt corner wide.

The Reds took off Davies and centre-back Liam Lindsay after half an hour, both nursing minor injuries, and brought on Jack Walton and Will Smith.

Barnsley took the lead after half an hour when Hedges skilfully skipped past for Reds right-back Scott Wiseman in the box and curled in from 15 yards out.

Fryers became the third visiting player to come off injured after 37 minutes, with Brad Potts replacing him. Adeboyejo headed wide from a Daniel Pinillos cross then Kieffer Moore was denied one-on-one after going through one-on-one following a fine Alex Mowatt through ball and Hedges' rebound rattled the bar.

Barnsley changed to 4-5-1 in the second half with left-back Pinillos moving into central midfield and youngster Adeboyejo playing on his own up front.

Ethan Pinnock, who was captain after Davies went off, came close with two headers early in the second half while a home player rattled the crossbar with another headed effort.

The hosts continued to attack with Walton brilliantly tipping over a long-range effort then a Salford man fired wide when through one-on-one.

Moncur blasted a shot from ten yards out against the right post after a superb run down the right flank by Adeboyejo.
