BARNSLEY'S unsung heroes will be honoured at the third annual Proud of Barnsley awards ceremony tonight.

This year has seen the highest number of nominations and the strongest shortlist.

Each and every finalists' story should remind everyone there are lots of reasons to be proud of Barnsley.

This year's ceremony will be hosted by radio presenter Stephanie Hirst and former BBC Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd.

There are 13 categories - from hospital hero to sporting achievement, new business start up to school of the year - a special supplement will be published next week featuring all the winners and the runners up.

There will be a special performance by Abi Weigold and magician Mark Lee will entertain guests during the evening.

Last year saw a host of worthy nominations and winners and almost 300 people attended.
