A FORMER Barnsley college student will be showcasing her work at the Civic this weekend following success with high street brand Miss Selfridge.

Jenny Beard, originally from Wombwell, will have an exhibition of her work shown from tomorrow until Saturday January 26.

Jenny, 24, who now lives in Leeds originally studied Fine Art at Barnsley College where she received an A* grade.

She said: “I’ve always been interested in art, but I started taking it more seriously whilst at Barnsley College.”

After college she went to study fine art at Leeds Arts University where she received a first class honours.

Last year she was commissioned to create Miss Selfridge spring/summer 2018 campaign artwork. On the Miss Selfridge website the company says it ‘discovered Jenny’s rainbow-hued works via her Instagram feed and totally fell for her floating balloon shapes and drips-and-all texture’.

She said: “I wouldn’t say the Miss Selfridge commission was my big break, but it certainly gave me confidence in my practise, and confidence in my online presence.”

Jenny said she is pleased to back in her home town to showcase her new work at the Civic.

Jenny added: “It’s great to be exhibiting in Barnsley, especially at this time because it feels like a good change is happening here right now, a lot of progression.

“In 2019 I hope to continue exhibiting my new body of working and start writing about art again.”
