MEMBERS of a historic crown green bowling club that survived the First World War are holding open days for prospective new players to ensure the club doesn’t go under during the pandemic.
Locke Park Bowling Club was formed in 1944 and are holding open days every Wednesday 10am to 2pm, with the first session being free, in a bid to entice new members.
The acting secretary of the club, Ann Slawycz, said: “We’ve been given permission by the British Crown Green Bowling Association to start up the club again and we’re hoping to recruit new members.
“To do that we’re hosting open days every Wednesday starting from next week, that will take place from 10am to 2pm, and their first session will be free to new members - it will cost £3 per session after that.
“There’s covid restrictions put in place and we ask that everyone bring their own hand sanitiser.”
