A HISTORIC mill building in Penistone could be lost to make way for a new housing development if planners agree to the proposals.

Developers accept that Nether Mill, at a farm site off Barnsley Road, is regarded as a ‘heritage asset’ but they say it is not listed and that its importance is not enough to stop it being demolished to make way for new housing.

They want to put 11 new homes on the site, which also has some buildings with listed status.

Part of the proposals would also see a section of nearby Nether Mill House, added after the original listed building was constructed, removed.

The plan is for homes with four or five bedrooms and Barnsley Council planners now have to decide whether to approve the proposals.
