A HOMEOWNER has vowed to fight the council’s moves to compulsory purchase his home of 44 years.

Mick McNiffe says he is consulting a solicitor over Barnsley Council’s plans to demolish his home - part of a block of 11 terraced properties - and replace them with six new semi-detached family homes on Baden Street, Worsbrough Dale.

Only two of the homes are lived in - Mick’s and his daughter’s a few doors down, which Mick also owns.

The other empty properties are in a poor state of repair but Mick says that’s the council’s fault and should not be used as a reason to put a knockdown price tag on his properties.
