A DERELICT row of terrace housing is set to be demolished to make way for eight bungalows.

The 19 houses, on Beever Street, Goldthorpe, are currently boarded up and applicant Berneslai Homes has submitted a plan to transform the street’s appearance.

Having already been awarded planning consent for the demolition and six bungalows to be built on the site in September 2016, the social housing provider resubmitted its application in order to secure permission for two more.

The plans, which will be discussed at Barnsley Town Hall on Tuesday, show there will be seven two-bedroom and one three-bedroom bungalows, compared to six two-bed units that were initially approved.

“The site is located in a mixed-use area next to Goldthorpe town centre and Beever Street, opposite the new primary school, comprises primarily high-density terraced housing.

“It is a more economical solution to the re-development of the land, allowing more units but also allowing for a slight variation in the accommodation offer.

“The scheme is therefore considered acceptable and in accordance with the relevant local and national planning policies.”
