THE NUMBER of patients seen within four hours at Barnsley Hospital’s A and E unit in December was 11 per cent below the national target.

Figures from NHS England show only 83.5 per cent of the 6,980 people who attended A and E were seen within four hours. This is down from 87.7 per cent in November.

The national target ,set by the government, is that 95 per cent of A and E patients should be transferred, admitted or discharged within four hours.

But the hospital has not met the 95 per cent target since last August.

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher has now demanded urgent action from the government.
