HOSPITAL security guards will be given police-style body cameras to capture violent attacks and aggression against staff and patients.

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is investing more than £6,000 in 11 body worn cameras for its team of security officers in an effort to reduce incidents of antisocial behaviour, violence and aggression on hospital premises.

The radical move was revealed at the North Area / West Local Policing Team community meeting held at the hospital on Monday by the hospital’s head of security, Mike Lees.

The cameras, each costing £550, have a range of about five metres and record audio as well as video.
