BARNSLEY Hospital’s ‘seven day services’ are being reviewed after it lost more than £1m in funding.

Over the last several years, the hospital has received one-off funding from the local Clinical Commissioning Group - which commissions the town’s health services - on top of its contractual payments.

It has used this money to pay for extended consultant cover, radiology and imaging, therapies and medicines management at weekends.

This year, the hospital received £1.7m. But for 2017/18, the sum given from the CCG will be just £450,000.

It means the hospital is having to look at ways of working differently to ensure none of the services it provides on a seven day basis are cut.
