HEALTH care assistants at Barnsley Hospital face being down-banded to save money.

A woman employed at the hospital as a band four health care assistant said a consultation was underway to consider down-banding band four assistants to band three.

She added: “We’re being asked to do the same job for less money and it’s a lot that we would lose.”

A spokesman for Barnsley Hospital said: “The consultation of this review is ongoing so we are unable to comment further at this time but we can confirm that this is in line with trusts nationally and there will be no loss of jobs during this review.”
