A TRAINEE at Barnsley Hospital has won the first prize at the regional qualifying heats of the world’s largest vocational skills competition.

WorldSkills UK aims to find the best adult health and social care students and workers in the country.

Trainee assistant practitioner (TAP) Shavaune Herbert was one of ten competitors at Shipley College, required to demonstrate their skills to the highest level.

The competitors took part in scenarios before a panel of experts which replicated situations health and social care workers would face in everyday situations.

They also undertook a multiple choice test and worked as a group.
