A FARMER endured almost an hour under threat from three men while waiting for police.

The scenario was relived as the issue of officers getting to remote rural locations cropped up yet again.

It was raised at Penistone Police and Community Together meeting, which gives people the chance to raise issues in their area.

Chf Insp Mark James said improvements are taking place.

“But it won’t be overnight. There is a willingness to make things better. We are rebuilding the neighbourhood teams.”

Another farmer from the Ingbirchworth area said: “Every time I ring you can’t find me. I am still waiting for a visit. I have two farms covering a large area and have had stolen a land rover, quad bikes, gates, wall toppings and there has been vandalism.”

There was a heated argument over a social media group, for farmers to use in times of trouble, but which is not used by police.

Sgt Brad Wynne said: “We are visiting farms and we will make a special effort.”
