A SOCIAL housing company is trying to help tackle domestic abuse in communities across Barnsley.

Berneslai Homes, which manages Barnsley’s council housing stock, has signed up to Make a Stand, a new national campaign developed by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) in partnership with Women’s Aid and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA).

Berneslai is now committed to creating policy to support residents experiencing domestic abuse, making domestic abuse services information available on its website, put in place a HR policy on domestic abuse and appoint a champion in the organisation to support people experiencing domestic abuse.

CIH president Alison Inman said: “I’m thrilled that Berneslai Homes has signed the Make a Stand pledge as this could make a very real difference in local communities.

“By signing the Make a Stand pledge Berneslai Homes has committed to supporting people in its communities and it is no exaggeration to say that this could save a life.”
