Housing in Goldthorpe is being prepared for three ex-servicemen to move into.

A property on Washington Road in the town has been acquired by the Barnsley Community Build and will house three former soldiers who are struggling to find somewhere to live following tours abroad.

It's a proud result for Coun May Noble who has been working on the project for some time.

She said: "I am so pleased this has now been sanctioned to go ahead.

"They (the BCB) will bring it up to a good standard and employ apprentices to help with this.

"These veterans will be chosen from around Yorkshire but they will try to place them close to where they come from.

"It is an excellent project recognising the veteran's service to their country."

Finances permitting, this is a project that may well continue within the Dearne South ward.

The coffee morning held last Friday at the Comrades club in Goldthorpe raised £1800 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
