A TRANSIT driver was robbed as he delivered cash to a bank in Hoyland.

At 10.08am on Wednesday police were called to King Street following reports that a 26-year-old man had been threatened and robbed as he went to deliver cash to Barclay’s bank.

The suspect is reported to have taken a cash container, containing a large sum of money, before running into what is believed to be a Vauxhall Insignia car that drove away from the scene.

A police spokesman said: “An investigation is underway and witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident number 231 of March 6.”

A Barclays spokesman said: ” We confirm that an incident took place outside our King Street, Hoyland, Barnsley branch yesterday. This meant that we had to close the branch for a short time and apologise to our customers for any inconvenience that this may have caused.”
