SEWERAGE work costing £250,000 will be carried out in Hoyland to stop flooding.

Yorkshire Water is investing in the sewerage system in Hawshaw Lane to increase the volume of water the sewer can hold, preventing flooding from occurring in the future.

Heavy rain has caused flooding problems on numerous occasions in the past at the junction of Hawshaw Lane with Market Street. One of the most notable was in 2012 after torrential rain, when residents complained that water was "spewing" out of manholes.

The team will be working to lay 58m of new sewer in the road and three new manholes, which will allow improved access to the system.

The works, carried out by Yorkshire Water's service partner BarhaleWSP, will start on November 24 and are expected to take until February 2015 to complete.
