A HOMELESS man has said he was made to feel humiliated after he was escorted out of a shoe shop for being ‘unhygienic’.

Lee Osbourn who has been living on the streets for three weeks was asked to leave Shoe Zone by security while he was trying on wellies.

He said that he had decided to buy some waterproof shoes after his trainers were sodden from the bad weather.

Lee said: “I was trying on the wellies but they didn’t fit so I got another pair and tried them.

“Two security men came up to me and said that I had to leave because I was unhygienic for trying them on. I asked to speak to the manager but they said she couldn’t come and see me and that I was taking too long.”

Lee, 37, left the shop and said that a ‘smartly dressed stranger’ bought the wellies he had tried on as a Christmas present.

He said: “I was so grateful because they were £10. I can’t believe he did that out of his own money.

“I hope him and his family have a good Christmas. He is very kind to do that for me.

“It made me feel better because he saw what happened to me and must have agreed that it wasn’t right how I was treated.”

Lee said that he was so grateful for the man’s act of kindness, that he forgot to ask for his name. Shoe Zone has confirmed that the ‘smartly dressed stranger’ was a member of staff at the shoe store and had bought them at his own discretion.

Shoe Zone did not want to make an official statement but said it understood that Lee was politely asked to leave after he was ringing out his socks. Shoe Zone said they were sorry to hear of the complaint.
