HUNDREDS of new homes could be built at the side of the motorway in Dodworth.

A tract of land bordering the northbound slip road at junction 37 has caught the eye of housing developer Strata.

It has produced a master plan brochure showing its ‘long term goal’ for the site wedged between the slip road and the rear of homes on Wareham Grove and the Water Royd Drive estate down to Keresforth Road.

The site is earmarked for housing in Barnsley Council’s Local Plan, a document that once adopted will guide all development in Barnsley. It is referred to as H19 in the plan, which is out to public consultation until today, and shows it could accommodate up to 231 homes.
