MORE than £700 was raised by staff at Barnsley Building Society as part of a Marie Curie appeal.

The society's 'Hour of Need' campaign will allow Marie Curie nurses to provide vital care and support for terminally ill people.

Fundraising took place at the branch on Cheapside with colleagues taking it in turns to accomplish more than 48,500 steps on a stepper machine.The amount raised will pay for 36 hours of Marie Curie nursing care.

Mike Fisher, manager of the Barnsley branch, said: "We know Marie Curie is a charity close to the hearts of many people in our community and I'd like to thank everyone who popped into the branch and sponsored us."
