A BARNSLEY man ran 130 miles in just three days to raise cash for Sheffield Hospitals Charity as a thank you to the staff who kept his wife alive.

Andrew Lockwood, 31, of Helston Crescent, Monk Bretton, ran 43 miles per day from Liverpool to Leeds raising more than £1,200 for the haematology department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, where his wife Jenny, 33, received treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma.

Andrew said: “Jenny was first diagnosed in 2012. It had been a build-up of symptoms that led to the diagnosis, including night sweats, tiredness, pains in her shoulders, anaemia and finally a cough that would not go away.”

At first, she was treated using a specific chemotherapy.

Then, in January 2013 the Lockwoods got the best news - the results had shown that the lymphoma had gone.

But it was to come back.
