EIGHT months ago Ian Thompson weighed 22 stones 7lbs, took painkillers to cope with the constant pain in his knees and could only sit and watch as his two-year-old grandson ran around the garden.

Now he has lost eight stones, no longer needs the painkillers and cycles up to 150 miles a week.

The 47-year-old lorry driver says he was inspired as he watched Le Grand Depart on television, but it was his inability to play with a two-year-old that made him start cycling.

He now intends to use his new found fitness to help others, he is taking part in Barnsley Hospice's On Yer Bike charity bike ride.

He  can be sponsored on his Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/Ian-Thompson136/
