ICE BUCKET challenge champion Paula Maguire has got Motor Neurone Disease pegged.

Paula brought the icy stunt to the UK after spotting it had taken off in America and some of the £87m it raised globally has helped fund a major breakthrough in research to fight the muscle-wasting disease, which is fatal and has no known cure.

The viral craze - which saw people drenched in icy cold water for charity - has funded a new technique leading to the discovery of a new gene linked to the disease which could result in new developments for treatment and therapy.

Paula, 42, who raised £4m alone on her Ice Bucket Challenge fundraising page, woke up to the exciting news on Wednesday.
