Barnsley's win over Fleetwood Town has been marred by an incident which occurred after the final whistle.

Cod Army manager Joey Barton has been interviewed by police following an allegation of assault on Reds head coach Daniel Stendel.

Stendel is understood to have received medical attention but the exact extent of his injuries are unknown.

A police statement from South Yorkshire and Lancashire police, given to Sky Sports, said: "There has been an allegation of assault on Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel. Police have spoken with Joey Barton to assist with their enquiries. South Yorkshire Police will speak again with Joey later in the week as part of a voluntary interview."

Neither club sent any coaches or players to do post-match interviews but Barnsley released a club statement. It read: "The club can confirm there was an alleged incident in the tunnel area that took place following the conclusion of today’s match, which South Yorkshire police are currently investigating. The club is assisting the police with its enquiries and, as a result, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time."
