Barnsley's long wait for a home league win was extended as they were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich Town.

The Reds' last win was way back in January and they looked on course to end that as they dominated the first half at Oakwell.

But two goals in the second half turned the game around and ensured Mick McCarthy's Ipswich continued their 100 per cent start to the season.

Andy Yiadom was left out of the squad as talks continue between him and Huddersfield Town so Matty Pearson replaced him at left-back and Jason McCarthy started at right-back.

New loan signing Harvey Barnes was named a substitute but Mamadou Thiam was not signed in time to feature.

Ryan Hedges' good early start to the season also earned him a starting slot.

Barnsley had a decent early chance when George Moncur's shot was spilled by Bartosz Bialkowski to Tom Bradshaw who nodded it back into the 'keeper's grasp.

Bradshaw then caught a volley well from Adam Hammill's cross and the Polish 'keeper had to tip it behind for a corner.

The home pressure was mounting and Ipswich finally caved in after 15 minutes when Hedges' overhead kick in the box found Bradshaw who guided it in at the backpost.

Ipswich then had striker Joe Garner to thank as he cleared Moncur's effort off the line.

Barnsley continued to push for a second and had two good chances right before the break.

Bradshaw led a counter-attack and put through Moncur whose shot was brilliantly kept out by Bialkowski.

The ball was then scrambled to Pearson who was denied by a strong save from the 'keeper.

Ipswich's half time substitute David McGoldrick almost made an immediate impact as he breezed through Barnsley's defence but his shot was smothered by Adam Davies.

He was celebrating in the 53rd minute as he leveled the match after meeting Jonas Knudsen's cross on the volley.

At the other end, Adam Jackson's overhead kick drifted just wide as Barnsley sought to go back in front.

Hammill then linked up with Brad Potts who brought another save out of Bialkowski.

Ipswich edged ahead on 70 minutes when McGoldrick linked up with fellow substitute Martyn Waghorn who drove into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Paul Heckingbottom introduced Stefan Payne and Barnes off the bench in a bid to earn a point in the last ten minutes. Barnes' impact was nearly instantaneous but his curled effort from the edge of the box was tipped away by the excellent Bialkowski.
