PLAYING football and taking part in sports day are regular events for most eight-year-olds but for Jake Blatch, who suffers from a rare life-limiting blood disorder, they are milestones.

Jake is one of only 600 people in the world suffering from Diamond-Blackfan anaemia, a disorder of the bone marrow which leaves him exhausted and unable to join in with physical activities.

Jake, from Allott Crescent, Jump, is celebrating three months in remission without the need for one of his medications.

Jake's mum, Claire, 34, said: "His body still works harder than ours, but he is not as tired. He told me that he feels like a superhero.

"He has found a new love for football and joined in school sports day for the first time."
