A CELEBRATED trumpet player who can be heard almost everywhere, from the West End to the soundtracks of James Bond films, will hold a special master class and public showcase at the Civic.
Mike Lovatt is a world-renowned lead trumpet player with an impressive list of features under his belt - from West End productions including Jesus Christ Superstar and Saturday Night Fever, to film soundtracks such as Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day, Chicago and the Harry Potter series.
The musician is currently playing in the West End production of Sister Act - but he has taken a break from his busy schedule to hold a special evening on Monday at the Civic.
Mike will give a masterclass for brass players aged 18 and below from around the borough at 4pm, before a public showcase performance in the Assembly Room.
During the latter performance, Mike will be joined by the Civic Fusion band and Take 2 Big Band, as well as young cornet player - and Young Champions nominee - Rhys Stokes, who has been selected to play a duet with Mike.
Greenfield Primary School pupil Rhys, 11, plays in Civic Fusion among other bands - including Barnsley Metropolitan Band for whom he plays on the front row with the solo cornets.
“We are absolutely delighted to have Mike visit,” said Alex Francis, lead officer at the Barnsley Music Service.
“He was at the top of our list of guests, so I was taken aback when he agreed to come.
Tickets for the showcase performance, at 7.30pm on Monday at the Civic, are £5 and are available from the box office on 327000.
