Dale Jennings admits some of his team-mates' 'heads are dropping' after the 3-0 losses to Leicester and Watford.
The 21-year-old winger has been one of Barnsley's top performers in recent months but has had little opportunity to use his pace and skill in the last two matches as the Reds have been outplayed. With 11 games left, former Bayern Munich man Jennings says belief is crucial if Barnsley are to bridge the three-point gap between them and safety.
The Liverpudlian said: "We need to show some more desire and determination and we need a bit of hope. I think some of the lads' heads are dropping at the moment, especially after the last two defeats. We need to have confidence in ourselves. We need to go into games believing that we're going to win. If we believe we're going to lose, we will."
Jennings – who has hit the ground running after being brought into the side by manager Danny Wilson following a loan at MK Dons – has no sympathy for centre-backs Lewin Nyatanga and Jean Yves M'voto who struggled as they played together for the first time on Saturday.
Jennings said: "No matter who comes into the side, they have got to do a job. It doesn't matter if they haven't been playing. "The better team won at Watford. We couldn't recover from going 2-0 down."
