BARNSLEY is home to a Special Olympics medallist after young judo player Kai Barnett won silver at the summer games.

Kai, who has Asperger Syndrome, competed with thousands of other athletes at the Special Olympics GB national summer games last week and was the youngest in his fighting category, going up against children two and three years older than him.

The ten-year-old, who took up the sport about three years ago, is thrilled to have brought home the medal and says he can’t wait to show it off to friends when he goes back to school at Wellgate Primary in September.
