FOLK singer Kate Rusby will headline two concerts in Penistone this weekend to raise awareness of prostate cancer after her father was diagnosed several years ago.

Though Kate’s father Steve is now recovered, her husband and fellow folk musician Damien O’Kane felt compelled to raise awareness of the condition to help dispel the macho attitude which can sometimes stop men from getting themselves checked.

Damien, 40, said he’d had the idea for a few years but never the time to commit to organising such an event.

Kate, from Cawthorne, will perform with Damien at the afternoon concert, and the couple will be joined by Mawkin, Lori Watson, and Dave Burland and the Awkward Squad. The evening concert sees Kate headline with Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton, Jenn Butterworth and Jack Rutter. There will also be a presentation explaining what prostate cancer is and why it is important to get checked out.

The concerts will be held on Sunday at Penistone Paramount. For tickets, visit the Penistone Paramount website.
