A 50s and 60s singer was on hand to help a lady in Penistone celebrate her 101st birthday.

Kathleen Crozier, who was born in the same year that the First World War ended, celebrated the big day at Buckingham Care Home, Green Lane, Penistone where she now lives.

Kathleen’s birthday was marked with a weekend of celebrations. She had a 50s and 60s singer come to the care home, followed by a family celebration in which four generations of her family came to visit.

Kathleen was born in Scarborough and moved to Sunderland when she was aged five. She remained there until 2002 when she moved to Barnsley to be closer to her daughter, Dorothy Whitmey.

Dorothy, 72, who lives in Dodworth, said: “I’m Kathleen’s only child and when she moved to Barnsley she lived on Park View, around the corner from myself. She only moved to Buckingham Care Home in September, she is a very strong and determined lady which I think has definitely played a part in her living for so long.

“My dad Jack, Kathleen’s husband, died 40 years ago and she has been a widow ever since. She has been doing everything for herself and it’s only in the last six months she has allowed others to step in and give her a hand.

“She has three granddaughters, four great granddaughters and one great grandson. She is determined to get to 105 so that she can receive another birthday card from the Queen.”
