EVERYONE at Ward Green Primary, from pupils to staff, will take part in a Race for Life event in memory of a former pupil and two parents.

Teacher Kerry Williamson has organised the event which will see younger pupils complete one lap of the school field, and older children complete two to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The event is being held in memory of Jack Hawkins, who died of bone cancer shortly after leaving the school. There are also two pupils who have lost a parent to cancer.

Kerry said: “We’ve lost two parents of the last couple of years to cancer and these children are still at our school.

“We’re also doing it memory of another child who did come to our school, Jack Hawkins, who died shortly after he left, from bone cancer. We’ve got trophies with his name on for the winners.

“It is something that has happened to us, rather than seeing it on the television. We’re raising money for Cancer Research to try and make people more aware.

“In the next couple of weeks I will be sending out information sheets and sponsor forms.”

Kerry said she takes part in Race For Life with her friends and thought it would be a good idea to raise money in memory of Jack and the two parents.

It will be held on July 9.
