BARNSLEY’S black pudding king has died at the age of 62.

Albert Hirst was synonymous with black pudding taking over the famous family butchery trade on the death of his father Albert in 1982.

Albert, of Bond Road, Barnsley, died last Sunday in Barnsley Hospital.

He leaves a partner of 16 years Marilyn and two sons, Ryan, 31, and Ben, 30.

Marilyn said: “Albert was a wonderful caring man with a great sense of humour.

“He would do anything around the home except the ironing. ‘I can make black pudding but I can’t do ironing,’ he would often say.”

Albert’s funeral will take place at Barnsley Crematorium on Christmas Eve at 2.10pm.
