New loan signing Alex Kiwomya is set to become the seventh footballer to follow in their father's footsteps by playing for Barnsley.

The 18-year-old striker - who signed on loan from Chelsea for a month on Saturday - is the son of Andy Kiwomya who was a youngster at Barnsley in the 1980s, playing once.

Alex told the Chronicle: "I'll be following in my dad's footsteps and I'm looking to excel. It's weird that we'll both have made our debuts for Barnsley. He has really helped me through my career. I think it's the best club for me and I'm really looking forward to it."

Kiwomya seems to be a replacement for Devante Cole who has returned to Manchester City after scoring seven goals for the Reds in the first half of the season. Manager Danny Wilson has not ruled out bringing Cole back as well.

He said: "I wouldn't expect Devante to come back in the next few weeks. It's possible he could come back at the end of the month. I am sure Manchester City will look to see what's available to Devante for the next stage in his development. It might be a step up to another level and we have to accept that. But we're still in the arm wrestle."
