SHOPKEEPER Julie Youel broke down in tears when the man who slashed her face and scarred her for life was put behind bars for ten years.

Julie, 56, wasn’t in court on Monday when Ashley William Boyle was jailed for ten years for attacking her with a Stanley knife during an attempted robbery at Jays convenience store on Agnes Road, Barnsley, on March 18.

Julie, who has owned the shop for 30 years and was back behind the counter just four days after the attack, told the Chronicle: “I got the news in the afternoon. It’s fantastic, if I can say that, and I didn’t expect it to be that long.

“I thought he may get three or four years but he deserves it for what he has put me through.

“I am still not right. I still get tearful about it and when I was told he’d got ten years I was all shook up and was crying.

“I think it is a good result and hope he suffers every day of it.

“He could have killed me and for what? He didn’t get away with anything.”
