New Barnsley signing Milan Lalkovic says he feels at home in England and intends to help the Reds to the Championship.

The 22-year-old Slovakian, who signed an 18-month deal last week, can play down either flank or up front but says he plays best as a left winger, despite being right-footed.

A product of the Chelsea academy system, Lalkovic was sent out to ADO Den Haag in Holland and Vitoria in Portugal before he was released after he spent the whole of the 2013/14 campaign at League One Walsall.

After an unsuccessful spell at Czech club Mlada Boleslav earlier this season, where he only made five appearances, he signed an 18-month-deal last week. The English game feels right to him.

He told the Chronicle: "I grew up here so I know how it is. If you are a good player you can adjust. I got injured in Holland. In Portugal I wasn't in the right state of mind. I was 19 and alone and a little bit sad. I played a lot of games at Walsall last season, which I needed.

"Now I'm at Barnsley I hope to get as many games as I can.  It's a good chance for me to get back on track. I hope I'm going to be one of the players that helps Barnsley back to the Championship.  I have my head down working hard to improve Barnsley and myself.

"The coach in the Czech Republic was sending me to play for the under 21s.  I had a difficult time. That's behind me now."

Lalkovic excited Reds fans with his cameo appearance in the win against Yeovil and he hopes more is to come. He added: "I am quite quick and I've got trickery. Hopefully I'll make and score goals.  That's the main thing and hopefully fans will enjoy the way that I play."

Lalkovic made his professional debut for tomorrow's opponents Doncaster in August 2011.
