SCORES of people are set to light more than a hundred lanterns in memory of a Royston teenager who took his own life last weekend.

Daniel Gregory, 18, of Jesmond Avenue, hanged himself at home in the early hours of May 3, his family said, after battling mental illness throughout his teenage years.

A poignant event at Royston Park, on Midland Road, has been organised to remember his life on Sunday night, with almost 200 people expected to attend.

Mum Andrea, 43, told the Chronicle: "He was a creative, talented lad who was so popular. I hope Daniel's story helps other people who struggle with mental health to talk about their problems.

"We are all heartbroken but we would love it if people attended on Sunday night. If we all come together we will hopefully bring comfort to each other."

People are asked to meet in the car park on Sunday night at 9pm.
