THE last shift has clocked off at Monckton coking plant, less than a week after its closure was announced.
Men leaving the Royston plant on Tuesday said it was a sad time for them, with many of the 126 workers now looking for jobs.
Owners Hargreaves said it was closing the site, the last independent coking plant in the country, as it was not cost effective.
